Salt acts as a nutrient and ensures the thermoregulation of the body. It is also a condiment that promotes the appetite of animals: action on salivation, rumination, digestion. It regulates the consumption of water and dry matter (DM) and thus promotes fattening and lactation.

A salt deficiency results in various (more or less visible) symptoms: decreased appetite, pica, decreased growth and milk production. The animal is tired, more susceptible to diseases, problems of infertility appear and this can lead to demineralization.
It is therefore necessary to bring salt regularly to the animals, their needs are at least 1.5 to 2 g Na / kg DM (about 4 g salt / kg DM).

Salt is the only food (along with water) for which animals have a specific appetite, that is to say they are able to adapt their consumption to their needs; there is no waste (no over or under-consumption) or loss because the salt is presented in compact form. As the salt requirements are permanent, the SEL'PUR Salins blocks must be distributed in self-service in sufficient numbers, continuously throughout the year, whether in stabling or pasture.
